Warlord era
As the former Celestial Empire began to devolve into warlordism in 1903, Chànba was under the rule of the Kwang governor and warlord X. Known for his brutality and suppression of the various ethnic minorities of Southwestern Qonklaks, the peoples of the X valley quickly rebelled and began to wage guerrilla wars against their former Kwang overlords. X, who was unable to secure support from anyone, quickly surrendered the region as the various rebelling ethnic groups established breakaway republics. These were considered rogue states by Qonklaks and members of the international community, and remained mostly impoverished. This period, known as the “Hundred Colors” in Chànba, was marked by poverty, petty wars between ethnic groups, and instability. In the 1920s, these groups would be easily crushed by the Hài Clique in their unification of Qonklaks into the Qonklese Empire.
Qonklese Civil War and independence
As the Qonklese Empire began to crumble to the Ngonku, the ethnic groups of the X valley would once again rise in rebellion. Under an alliance of the X, X, and X peoples, the X valley would be united under the newly proclaimed Democratic Representative Republic of Chànba. The various ethnic leaders would come to establish a federal system, intended to ensure equal representation of all the largest ethnic groups of Chanba. The first Grand Representative, X, would be elected in 1948. The Archdessodom of Ishkur would be the first country to recognize the fledgeling republic, and quickly established diplomatic communications, aid, and military support. The Archdessodom, concerned over the rising tide of Cenonism in Tammuz, wanted to secure a foothold of influence against the Cenonist tide. Chànba would quickly receive recognition and aid from the Archdessodom’s global allies as well.
The Songbird Incident
In 1951, as part of Operation Songbird, the newly Cenonist Qonklaks would begin a military expedition into Chànba, in order to re-integrate it into Qonklaks. This quickly drew the ire of the Archdessodom of Ishkur, with the Archdessodom threatening potential retaliation against Qonklaks. What followed was a tense 25-day diplomatic standoff between Qonklaks and the Archdessodom, with the possibility of total nuclear war. In the end, Qonklaks would pull out of Chànba and maintain a ceasefire, under the condition that the Archdessodom of Ishkur never establish military bases or store weapons of any sort within its borders. Chanba would not be recognized by Qonklaks until Jiq Zaw's administration and reforms in 1975.
