By the followers of Hanctheism, he is considered the mortal emanation, or an avatar, of the solar deity Hounshi. Jööçin Sošug succeeded Yi Chi, the 119th Avatar of Hounshi, upon the latter's death. He is the first ethnic Öwi and the second non-Kwang to hold this post.
